This month at the Family Hemerlein Variety Show we're celebrating springtime by mixing up the finest alternative comedy and indie music onstage like the birds and the bees, except with twice as much titillation and less stinging!

THIS JUST IN: The first 25 people in the door at 8pm will recieve some fabulous door prizes--CDs, T-shirts, and weird European candies are all possibilities. So do be on time!

Headlining the musical portion of the night will be Bethany Dinsick, from Baltimore Maryland. Bethany's combination of intricate folk singing and performance art inventiveness makes her the perfect choice to cap off the evening.  Her work treads the border between sound-scape and traditional pop music, often accompanied by innovative abstract film or visual artwork, but anchored by a gorgeous lifting soprano voice in the traditon of Josephine Foster or Mary Timony. She just got back from a national tour with Teaadora Nikolova, on which she garnered much national and local praise. BYT is proud to bring her down in triumph from our 95N sister city to charm us with her transcendent whimsy.

Our featured comedian will be Jay Welch from New York City NY. Jay is a mountain of cerebral, wordy brilliance--able to make to you confused and ecstatic with the same subversive one liner. He runs the best comedy nights in town and has played all the best clubs. Now we have him in his FIRST exclusive DC appearance.

Hosting the night as always will be comic god Seaton Smith, purveyor of both provocative interviews and absurdist video production.

And masterminding the whole operation is its namesake Matthew Hemerlein and his bevy of collaborators. Drawing from a massive pool of talent from around the city and area, from members of  Kitty Hawk  to the Thornley Brothers from US Royalty, Matthew promises this outing will have more outlandish super special guests to duet with, as well as the classically inspired looped-violin and guitar based indie wonderfulness which is making him an international pop superstar slowly but surely.

And as we've done in the past we're partnering with the Warehouse Theater and Bulleit Burbon to bring you a happy hour in the theater before and after the show, serving a 'Family Bullet burbon punch' specially created by Derek Brown, mixologist at the Passenger.

Tickets are $10 for presale and $15 at the door. We nearly ran out of space last time so definitely reserve your spot early!

The doors will open at 8 for a happy hour mixer with the artists, and the show will start promptly at 9.

The Warehouse Theater is located at 1021 7th Street Northwest, which is out the backdoor of the Passenger bar.
